Thanks again to to everyone for participating in Round III of ”Admired by Beckstead” — our twice-monthly David Beckstead image contest!
We’re thrilled to announce this week’s FIRST PLACE winner: Curtis Copeland of South Florida. Congratulations Curtis!

Here’s David’s commentary on Curtis’ winning image:
“The square compositional format really works with this image. All lines including the painting lines and horizon line point to the couple in the middle, supporting a center/subject composition: breaking the Rule of Thirds successfully. I enjoy the repetitive squares of the painting and overall format. The toning works well to enhance the mood of this photographic art. I am drawn in by the believable passionate kiss and body positioning which works well with the flow of the composition. Great use of negative space giving the viewer’s eye a place to rest on the top right and giving the couple a place to ‘pop’ from the background.
Love this shot!!”
SECOND place goes to Nick Haskins from Houston, TX.

David’s comments:
“Such a warm feeling! It so makes me want to be that family, walking on the beach and enjoying all the wonderful senses! The composition is great with the subjects walking into the frame. The shadow lines create leading lines to the subjects. The photographer held the details well in this shot in strong light. Nice toning!”
THIRD place goes to Justin Hankins out of Virginia Beach.

David’s Comments:
“All these great architectural lines meet at the center and to the bride. This makes for a powerful center/subject composition! The guests heads create leading lines also which is very cool! Reflection, lines, balance, mood…this shot has it all!
Great photojournalistic shot!”
*** Next contest round is now open! We’re accepting submissions today through Monday, May 11. We’ll then present the winners here on the blog Friday, May 15th. Head over to our Admired by Beckstead Facebook Group and submit your entry.

Congratulations!! Curtis, your photo is full of art, not only with the painting in the background, but the bride and groom might as well be ballerinas. Their bodies are positioned in such a soft, gentle way. Love it.

Beautiful images!! I love curtis coplands creation of art in a world of art. Very nice. THe feel of Nick Haskins image is so inviting and I love the use of the light from the back of the church in Justin Hankins is so much more interesting than on camera flash.

The image by Justin Hankins is simply wonderful in my opinion. The tone and mood is wonderful. It is a very emotional shot and I love it. Justin . . . . great job. They are all good but this is by far my favorite.

I love them all but have to say that 3rd place is actually my favorite. There is so much drama, mystery and anticipation in it. I love how there are so many lines leading to the bride. There are even streams of light peaking around the bride going down the aisle. Beautiful!
